InMode Lumecca IPL

For years, IPL (intense pulsed light) treatments, also known as photo facials, have been the go-to for smoothing out rough skin texture and uneven skin tone and treating bothersome blood vessels. The popular rejuvenating skin treatment is quick and easy. Still, it comes with its own set of rules: darker skin needs to proceed cautiously, and lighter hair may not be entirely erased (seeking treatment with a skilled expert is imperative). The quest for radiant skin ranks high on many people's lists, and IPL allows them to reach their desired skin goals.

Like many other aesthetic treatments that evolve with time, so has IPL. The next-generation IPL devices and treatments take a revolutionary, non-invasive approach to improving skin concerns. With the blink of an eye, you can kiss stubborn age spots, discoloration, facial redness, and even signs of sun damage for fresh, revived skin that looks years younger—and is healthier!

What Is Inmode Lumecca IPL?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a light-based skin-rejuvenating treatment. The Lumecca platform from InMode effectively targets age spots, sun damage, and pigmentation, including broken capillaries, port-wine stains, spider veins, freckles, and rosacea. To date, Lumecca is one of the most effective IPL devices currently available. The treatment relies on high pulses of light energy that safely yet effectively penetrates all the layers of the skin without causing any damage to the skin's surface, which means there's no downtime either.

No matter where on the face or body pigmentation or the signs of aging or skin damage appear, Lumecca effectively treats these concerns and improves the skin. Popular treatment areas include the face, neck, décolletage, and hands.

The most significant advantage of Lumecca IPL versus other IPL brands is that with Lumecca, most people see an improvement in their skin after just one treatment and optimal results after two sessions. Other IPL machines require three or more treatment sessions before a noticeable difference in the skin. The result is more evenly toned skin, a beautiful radiance, and a youthful appearance.

How Does Inmode Lumecca IPL Work?

IPL treatments, including Lumecca, target three skin components—water, melanin, and hemoglobin—to improve and rejuvenate skin, lighten hyperpigmentation, and shrink enlarged veins and dilated capillaries. The light that is emitted targets hemoglobin that is then absorbed by it to heat the blood in the vessels and cause them to coagulate and collapse.

Lumecca is a relatively quick IPL treatment that takes about 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. Specific light waves are expertly calibrated to tackle the concerns at hand. Lumecca amplifies short wavelengths 40% more than standard IPL, providing higher energy density in melanin and hemoglobin absorption and making it more effective than other IPL machines.

As the treatment safely heats the skin's surface, it attracts discoloration and pigment to the surface and destroys it, and a few days later will darken like a coffee grind and flake off on its own. A byproduct of targeting hyperpigmentation is improved skin elasticity, more even skin tone, smaller-looking pores, and improved skin cell metabolism.

When treating enlarged veins or reddened capillaries, Lumecca works the same way at the dermis rather than deep below it. As the energy is absorbed by oxyhemoglobin, the natural pigment in the blood cells, the treated veins or capillaries may blanch, turn a different color, and possibly flake off or lighten with time. Lumecca can also improve reddened areas of skin affected by rosacea that display small blood vessels on the chin, cheeks, and forehead.

The light exerted onto the skin also prompts the body to create new collagen to firm and smooth the skin, making common signs of aging like fine lines, sunspots, enlarged pores, and mild laxity less evident.

IPL devices, including Lumecca, are not a one-and-done treatment. Depending on the severity of your pigmentation and skin damage, you'll need at least two monthly sessions to achieve your goals, with maintenance sessions recommended to uphold the results. The handpiece's large spot size and the high pulse frequency reduce treatment time. The skin is never overheated thanks to Lumecca's built-in cooling system that features a sapphire tip that makes the entire IPL treatment nearly painless.

No matter what you choose to treat with Lumecca IPL, there's no risk of scarring, and any post-treatment redness is caused by the series of light flashes, which will dissipate after a few hours.

What Are the Treatment Areas?

What's nice about Lumecca IPL is that it isn't relegated just to certain parts of the body. The treatment works on all body areas, especially those constantly receiving sun exposure, like the face, neck, arms, hands, legs, and chest.

What Are the Benefits of Inmode Lumecca IPL?

There are several benefits of Lumecca IPL, which improves the skin's tone and treats textural issues and vascularity concerns. Some of the most popular treatment options include improving the signs of:

  • Brown spots

  • Age spots

  • Freckles

  • Sun damage

  • Rosacea-related redness

  • Skin laxity

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Acne

  • Uneven skin texture

  • Vascular lesions like broken capillaries, spider veins, and port wine stains

The FDA-cleared Lumecca IPL treatment is quick and effective, perfect for busy people on the go. A single treatment can be performed in about 30 minutes (depending on the size of the area to be treated). Because Lumecca's IPL technology keeps the uppermost layers of skin perfectly intact, there's zero downtime.

Another significant benefit of Lumecca compared to other IPL treatments is that only two sessions are needed to see visible improvements in the skin. However, many patients notice a dramatic change in their skin after one treatment.

A cooling tip on the Lumecca handpiece makes for a painless and comfortable procedure that doesn't require topical numbing cream (you can apply it if your skin is sensitive). Also, since the integrity of the skin is not compromised during the treatment, there's no downtime, and you can resume your regular activities following a session.

What To Expect During Treatment

A treatment session using Lumecca IPL isn't painful or uncomfortable. Still, if your skin is sensitive, you may want your provider to apply topical numbing cream first to make the treatment more comfortable.

Before the first flash of the IPL light happens, you'll put on a pair of protective goggles. Then, your provider will apply a cooling gel to the treatment area before the handpiece moves across the skin.

During treatment, the Lumecca handpiece will emit multiple bright light flashes. It may feel like a rubber band snap on the skin or a slight pinch—the entire treatment takes around 30 minutes.

Once your session is complete, the skin may be slightly pink or red and feel warm to the touch, which usually subsides within an hour. Over the next 24-48 hours, you may see the treated areas begin to darken (especially if pigment was addressed), and over the next few days, they will transform to look like coffee grinds before naturally falling off. Once the pigmented lesions flake off, the skin will emerge more even in tone. After treating vascular lesions, the vein or capillaries may appear blanched or even a different color as they slowly fade.

Most patients notice a change in their skin after one treatment session of Lumecca, but improvement is cumulative, and additional sessions provide even better results.

Who Is the Ideal Candidate?

Lumecca IPL works for a wide array of patients concerned with skin tone and skin texture changes that can cause their skin to look less youthful. The ideal candidate has sun damage-related discoloration on their face, chest, neck, or body, which manifests as brown spots, age spots, or freckles that they wish to improve. IPL is also helpful for those who suffer from rosacea and its vascularity effects, causing a flush appearance of the skin. People with blotchy or discolored skin and uneven texture respond well to the treatment.

No matter the issue that Lumecca IPL can correct, the treatment will always work best on untanned skin. Tanned skin or skin considered too dark for the treatment (your skin will be assessed during your consultation) may run the risk of pigmentation changes post-treatment.

Also, those taking Accutane should stop the medication and be off it for at least six months before undergoing IPL.

COMMON FAQS

  • While everyone is different, most people notice an improvement in their skin with one treatment and optimal results with two. However, we recommend scheduling a consultation to determine the exact number of treatments you need.

  • What's nice about the Lumecca IPL is that the treatment has no downtime, and most people experience no side effects after their session. These may be some temporary redness, like a sunburn, to the skin or warmth radiating, which will disappear within a few hours. There may also be some light sensitivity directly after the treatment.

Wearing plenty of sunblock post-treatment and avoiding unnecessary sun exposure are recommended. Following a gentle, hydrating skincare routine for the week after receiving your IPL treatment is also helpful to the skin. Your skin is delicate, so treat it with TLC.

  • You'll see improvement in sun-damaged skin and softer skin texture a few days after the first session. The skin will continue to look better over time, and the most visible results can be seen about one to two weeks after the treatment. Multiple sessions will improve the final result. Results can be seen around the two-week mark for vascular treatments such as spider or leg veins.

The results of pigment removal are relatively permanent, but pigment can recur, or new pigment can form from natural aging and sun exposure.

  • Compared to other IPL techniques and machines, Lumecca is different and quicker to show results because it has peak power in the visible light spectrum range, offering the best light absorption by melanin and hemoglobin. This allows Lumecca to target red and brown colors effectively.
